There is no "FreeNAS torrent client." There's a plugin available for Transmission, which is a fairly popular torrent app, but you can use any torrent software you can install under FreeBSD. Transmission does support having in-progress downloads in a different directory than completed ones, but I don't think it does size checking as you describe.

Most NAS have a torrent client. May or may not be as good as whatever desktop flavor you use. I end up mounting/mapping my 'torrent' share on my NAS to my server. Nice to have both a GUI in OS and a Web gui to control the same client. (Transmission in my case) Do as you will. Lots of folks are fine with the synology download station.

I was one of the views. If the main purpose is torrents, then any single bay nas is ok. The DS413 can't compare because it is 4 bay. But if you want to play media files through it, using xbmc, I would think about the asustor 202TE, start off with one hard drive & add another later.
